Our shipping and handling are actual costs plus $1.00 for all orders. If your shipping weight is less than 1 pound, you will probably find that you can add several more lightweight items without increasing the shipping cost. The estimated weight and cost in the shopping cart is updated as each item is added.
USPS shipping
For orders weighing less than 1 pound, $6.75 First Class is the cheapest. The Post Office estimates that First Class Mail will take a few days longer than Priority Mail. The Post Office estimates, but does not guarantee 1 to 3 days for Priority Mail delivery.
Priority Mail Flat Rates: For Priority Mail, we will use a Flat Rate envelope or box if possible and your Shipping & Handling cost may be less than the estimated amount. The minimum is $11.99.
NOTE: The USPS is notoriously slow unfortunately. First Class is often taking up to 7 days and Priority mail up to 5 days. If you haven’t received your package within two weeks of ordering, please contact us at css@sewsassy.com with your name and order number,
UPS shipping
We have UPS pick up Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday and your order will be shipped from zip code 35805 in Huntsville, AL.
Shipping cost is based upon the size, weight and dimensions of the box/package and the zip code it is shipping to. Any large packages may also incur additonal fees from UPS for “dimensional weight” which is the package size. Rolls of fabric typically have an extra $15.00 added due to the length of the roll.
UPS Next Day Air, 2nd Day Air, or 3 Day Select may provide quicker delivery to your location and are available for an additional charge, based on the package weight, size and destination. We will attempt to ship the same day for orders of only a few items if received before noon Central Time. They will be shipped the next business day if they can not be shipped the day we receive your order. The shopping cart does not offer an Express shipping option. If you need Express, email patti3@sewsassy.com immediately after placing your order. Once your order has been prepared, boxed up and weighed, we will contact you with those shipping options. If you still desire that Express ship we can invoice you for the difference. Again we ship on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays.
Please note that the UPS Next Day Air guarantee is based on the date of the order shipment and the guarantee refers to business days. For example, Next Day Air packages shipped on Friday will be delivered on Monday (Tuesday if Monday is a holiday.). Saturday delivery for Next Day Air packages shipped on Friday or 2nd Day Air packages shipped on Thursday is available for an additional $15 charge. Put “Saturday delivery” in the special instruction in the shopping cart for this service. The $15 is not included in the shipping cost estimate. Not all locations will have a Saturday delivery option- that is up to UPS.
CHEAPEST SHIPPING
For US orders when checking out, if you will add the note Cheapest Shipping in the Address Notes, we will
- Send First Class for $6.75 if the weight is less than one pound
- Send the cheaper of USPS Priority Mail or UPS Ground if the weight is over a pound. Minimum is $11.99.
Oftentimes the stated shipping on the order is correct and we are unable to lower it. We will certainly try out best though if you note “cheapest shipping”.

Dimensional weight
UPS and the Post Office shipping costs are based on the higher of the actual weight or what is called the dimensional weight of the package. The dimensional weight is calculated based on the size of the package. The dimensional weight can be higher for shipments of light weight bulky items. For example, orders of several yards of light weight bulky fabric such as Cut & Sew foam, or orders for several dozen bra or swim cups, may have a higher dimensional weight than the actual weight.
UPS also charges an additional $15.00 if the length of a package is greater than 48″. This will apply for fabrics wider than 48″ shipped on a tube.
The shipping cost estimate in the shopping cart does not include a dimensional weight calculation. In these cases where the dimensional weight is higher, or the package length is greater than 48″, your shipping cost will be higher than the amount shown on your order.
